Abstract

The current undertaking is proposed by Dublin Broadcasters, LLC and will be permitted by the Federal Communications Commission. Dublin Broadcasters, LLC proposes to install antennas on a new 349-foot guyed tower in a previously wooded area, which is currently cleared and graded, for the purpose of a broadcast tower site. The location where this undertaking is planned includes a roughly 35-foot by 35-foot (10.668m x 10.668m) lease area located off a gravel and dirt road that extends from Barnes Road, Dublin, Georgia. The lease area would be accessible via this existing access road. The location of the proposed tower has historically been used for tree farming. Timber was most recently harvested in 2011. There area as not replanted at that time. Research conducted by the Georgia Archeological Site File: UGA Riverbend Research Labs identified three archaeological sites (9LS86, 9LS92, 9LS256) and one archaeological survey (5216) within a ¾-mile research radius from the proposed undertaking. No structural Historic Properties were identified with the ¾-mile radius. Subsurface testing was completed within the previously described lease area, at the guy-anchor points, and at the location of an overhead utility pole. One prehistoric site consisting of three non-diagnostic chert lithic flakes was identified within the APE for direct effects for the undertaking. This site does not appear to meet the criteria for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. No other cultural materials were identified by the intensive archaeological pedestrian and subsurface survey conducted. Therefore, no Historic Properties are likely to be visually or directly affected by the project.
