Abstract

When New South Associates initially conducted Phase I archaeological survey of the SR 1 0/US 78 WBL Bridge project in 2008, the project was described as follows: GDOT plans to replace the existing westbound bridge on SR 10/US 78 over the Apalachee River and to rebuild the approaches on either side. The corridor currently contains dual bridges that cross the river. The new westbound bridge will be constructed to the north of the existing westbound bridge. Transects were placed on both sides of the road along the 6,000-foot (1 ,829 meter, 1.14 mile) corridor, approximately 33 feet (10 meters) from the current right-of-way. The project was put on hold until 2011, when New South Associates was asked to complete the project. We received a more recent concept report that was dated in early 2010. This concept report indicated a project corridor of approximately 3,500 feet (1 ,067 meter, 0.66 mile). The project is confined to the existing right-of-way of 300 feet (92 meters, 0.067 mile).
