Abstract

This report details an archaeological survey of the proposed Oglethorpe Power Corporation's Highway 54 transmission line and substation located in Fayette County, Georgia. This survey located eight previously unknown archaeological sites and five isolated artifact finds. Test excavations were conducted within one site, Site 1, and revealed a shallow plow disturbed deposit of Early Woodland period artifacts. This site was recommended as ineligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places because of its disturbed state and limited information potential. No further work was recommended for the remaining seven sites identified by this study.
