Abstract

Environmental Corporation of America (ECA) has completed an Archaeological Assessment for the federal undertaking at the subject site. The subject site includes a proposed approximate 100‑foot by 100‑foot (30‑meter by 30‑meter) telecommunications facility and an approximate 389‑foot long by 30‑foot wide (118‑meter by 9‑meter) non‑existing access/utility easement and approximate existing 471‑foot long by 18‑foot wide (144‑meter by 18‑meter) with proposed 60‑foot ingress (18‑meter). The proposed telecommunications facility would include a 199‑foot (overall height) tall monopole telecommunications structure and associated ground level support equipment. The subject site is located off Flowery Branch Road, Cumming, Forsyth County, Georgia.

This archaeological assessment was conducted in order to ascertain whether the proposed undertaking might directly or indirectly affect cultural resources, if any such resources exist. During our database research, we found 12 previously identified archaeological sites (9F0203, 9F0103, 9F0175, 9F042, 9F078, 9F0187, 9F040, 9F041, 9F080, 9F034, 9F035, and 9F036) and one survey (5407) within our standard 1‑mile background research radius. None of the previously recorded archeological sites or surveys are located within the APE for direct effects, but outside the APE for direct effects. During the course of the field survey portion of this archaeological assessment no archaeological sites were identified.

ECA believes that the proposed undertaking would have no effect on any historic or prehistoric archaeological resources that are listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. Based on our findings related to archaeological resources, we recommend no further consultation under Section 106 Review of the National Historic Preservation Act for this proposed undertaking.
