The proposed project would consist of upgrading pedestrian facilities at various locations throughout District 6. These upgrades would consist of the installation of pedestal poles with pedestrian countdown signals and push button stations which tie into the existing signal timing, as well as sidewalks, curb cut ramps, pedestrian warning signs, raised concrete islands, ADA ramps, and crosswalks.
The initial project proposal was for upgrades to seven locations in Bartow, Floyd, Gordon, and Haralson Counties. These locations were cleared archaeologically by Luke Erickson in 2004. Following this, three additional intersections in Catoosa, Floyd, and Carroll Counties were added to the project area. These locations were surveyed and cleared by Eric Duff in 2007. In August 2014, the project was revised and four intersections were removed from the project area. The most recent revision of the project description, transmitted on December 19, 2014, removed one additional intersection. The five locations now included in the project area listed below:
County Description Archaeology Surveyor/Year
Carroll SR 61 at Hickory Level Road/Liberty Road Duff 2007
Floyd SR 1 Loop at SR 293 Erickson 2004
Floyd SR 101 at Wax Road Duff 2007
Haralson SR 1 at SR 120 Erickson 2004
Haralson SR 8 at SR 1 Business Erickson 2004
In the most recent project revision, proposed work at the intersection of SR 8 and SR 1 Business in Haralson County has been modified to include enhancements within an area of existing railroad easement (Figures 1 and 2). Enhancements to this intersection will include installation of pedestal poles, push button stations, sidewalks, curb cut ramps, pedestrian warning signs, raised concrete islands, ADA ramps, and crosswalks. In addition, access from Carrollton Street to SR 8 will be permanently removed and approximately 80 feet (24.4 m) of Carrollton Street will be demolished and landscaped (Figures 2, 10, and 11). All other work will be completed within existing right‑of‑way (ROW).
