Abstract

An intensive cultural resources survey was conducted at the Oglethorpe Power Corporation (OPC) proposed Groover Lake substation site and Douglasville-Groover Lake-Factory Shoals Road transmission line corridor in Cobb and Douglas Counties, Georgia. Three isolated artifact occurrences and several disturbed grave markers were located. The artifact occurrences are not significant archaeological resources and the grave markers were found to be redeposited and were not representative of any extant cemetery or graves. The proposed site of the Groover Lake substation and portions of the proposed transmission line corridor were found to be located within the boundaries of Sweetwater Creek State Park Multiple Resource National Register District; however, no adverse impact to the District is expected to result from project construction. No architecturally significant structures were located in the survey area.
