Abstract

This report covers cultural resources investigation prior to proposed construction of a third water tower and additional water pipeline for buildings on U.S. Army Camp Frank C. Merrill, in Lumpkin County, north of Dahlonega. The field survey was conducted by the author under a cooperative agreement between the U.S. Army and the U.S.D.A. Forest Service, in April and August, 1987. Camp Merrill is located on a portion of the Chattahoochee National Forest, and the total area surveyed was about two acres. The knoll top where the water tank was to be built already had two tanks in place, and the pipeline locations were also heavily disturbed. Thus the proposed construction would not affect any undisturbed land. No new cultural resources were found in the surveyed areas, and cultural resources clearance for this project is recommended.
