Abstract

The primary purpose of the project is to provide a connection between State Route (SR) 54 and Lester Road through the implementation of a multi-modal system for pedestrians, cyclists, and golf cart vehicles. The project is also to promote health and well ness of the general public through multi-modal transportation facilities and connectivity to key land uses in the City of Fayetteville. This project originated from Fayette County's application for Transportation Alternative Program (TAP) funding. The pedestrian bridge will be located approximately 1/4 mile west of Piedmont Fayette Hospital and the intersection of Togwotee Parkway at SR 54. The pedestrian bridge will connect at grade with the future proposed shared-use trail along SR 54 which will connect to the existing network of shared-use trails in Fayette County. This project will be built-out in phases over several years and will provide connectivity with existing paths in Fayetteville and the unincorporated county. The bridge will be a pre-fabricated truss bridge 12' wide and approximately 165' long. The bottom of the bridge will be elevated no less than 18'6" above the pavement surface of SR 54. The shared use trail will also be 12' wide and will ramp up to the overpass bridge. The proposed shared-use trail location north of SR 54 will continue northbound for approximately 380' to connect to Piedmont Fayette Hospital. South of SR 54, the shared-use trail will ramp down into existing grade and continue east for approximately 350' along the south side of SR 54, before turning south. The trail will run through a forested area for approximately 3,700' before ultimately connecting to the existing trail along Lester Road.
