Abstract

An intensive cultural resources survey was performed on Oglethorpe Power Corporation's proposed 13.4 km (8.3 mi) Burnt Church 115 kV transmission line and 115/25 kV substation, located in Bryan County, Georgia. Three cultural resources were located, consisting of an early twentieth century house site, a ceramic scatter of the same age, and an isolated prehistoric projectile point fragment. Because of extensive disturbance resulting from modern silviculture none of these resources has integrity, and they do not appear to meet the criteria required for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Also due to modern forestry practices there were no standing structures along most of the proposed route.
