Abstract

The proposed project has gone through several changes since the Section 106 process was initiated in 2005. Originally, the proposed project consisted of the improvement of State Route (SR) 20 in Walton County, Georgia beginning just north of Rosebud Road/Miller Bottom Road and ending at the SR 20 intersection with SR 81 in the city of Loganville (GDOT 2005). The existing typical section along SR 20 consists of two 12-foot travel lanes with 5-foot graded outside shoulders. As the project was originally conceived, the existing two-lane roadway would be widened to a five-lane roadway beginning just south of Sharon Church Road and transition from a five-lane roadway to a one-way pair just north of Overlook Drive. The proposed typical section for the five-lane roadway would consist of four 12-foot lanes, one 14-foot center turn lane, outside curb and gutter, additional 3 feet paved in each direction to accommodate a future raised median, and 5-foot sidewalks. The proposed typical section for the one-way pair would consist of two 12-foot travel lanes in each direction, outside curb and gutter, and 5-foot sidewalks. The one-way pair would utilize the existing SR 20/Main Street roadway in Loganville as the two northbound travel lanes and C S Floyd Road as the two southbound travel lanes. The one-way pair would continue through downtown Loganville and end at the intersection of SR 20 and SR 81.
