Cultural Resource Investigations for a Proposed Communications Tower for the Altamaha Electric Membership Corporation on Scott Avenue in the City of Swainsboro, Emanuel County, Georgia

Abstract

In August and September of 2014, Archaeological Consulting of Savannah, LLC (ACS) conducted a Phase I cultural resources assessment in advance of a proposed telecommunications tower for the Altamaha Electric Membership Corporation. The property where the tower construction is proposed is located at the southeastern junction of Scott Ave. and Industrial Way within the city limits of Swainsboro, Georgia and the majority of an the area within a 0.75-mile radius of the proposed tower is also within the corporate limits of Swainsboro (Figure 1). The area immediately adjacent to the proposed tower site consists of a wooded area to the east, power utility infrastructure facilities to the north and south and commercial and light/agro- industrial facilities to the west (Figures 2-5). Within a 0.75-mile radius of the proposed project site, there, likewise exists commercial, agro-industrial, light industrial, wooded, as well as residential areas.
