Abstract

The proposed project consists of replacing the existing bridge over Mountain Oak Creek on State Route (SR) 219 between Hopewell Church Road and SR 116, south of Whitesville (Figure 1 ). The existing typical section of SR 219 consists of two, 11-foot wide travel lanes (one in each direction) with a 2-foot paved shoulder on each side. The existing bridge over Mountain Oak Creek is approximately 175 feet long with two 11-foot wide lanes, a roadway width of 24 feet, and a bridge deck width of 30 feet. The existing right-of-way (ROW) on this section is 100 feet wide.

The project proposes to replace the existing bridge over Mountain Oak Creek with a wider, 230 foot long bridge consisting of two 12-foot lanes with 6-foot shoulders. The project also proposes to widen the two 11-foot lanes on SR 219 into 12-foot lanes with a 10-foot shoulder (6.5 feet paved to accommodate bicycles) for a 2,400 foot long section of the roadway extending approximately 1,000 feet from each end of the new bridge. Additional ROW required for this project varies in width throughout the project corridor between 5 and 25 feet. An off-site detour onto Interstate 185 would also be implemented.
