Abstract

R. S. Webb & Associates (RSWA) conducted a Phase I cultural resources survey of the proposed 75-acre Nash Preserve development tract in Gwinnett County, Georgia to locate and identify cultural resources within the project area, and to assess the significance of each resource. The project area is located south of Five Forks-Trickum Road, west of Yellow River, and southwest of the community of Five Forks. Eight archeological sites (9GW 603 through 9GW 61 0) and two isolated fids (IF -1 and IF -2) were recorded as a result of the study. All eight of the archeological sites and both of the isolated fids have prehistoric components. Site 9GW 609 has a minor historic component. One historic structure (GW -1 00) was recorded within the Area of Potential Effects (APE), but beyond the project boundary. Structure GW-100, a c.1900 residence, is recommended potentially eligible for the NRHP, But there will be no adverse effect to the resource. Sites 9GW603 through 9GW609 and the two isolated finds are recommended ineligible for the NRHP. Cultural resources clearance to proceed with project implementation in these areas is recommended. Prehistoric Site 9GW 610 is recommended potentially eligible for the NRHP, and we recommend protection of this site. If Site 9GW61 0 will be adversely effected by the proposed project, we recommend Phase ll archeological testing to further evaluate its' NRHP eligibility status.
