Abstract

A Phase I cultural resources survey was conducted for the proposed Edenwood development tract in Paulding County, Georgia, to locate and identify cultural resources within the project area; and to assess the significance of each resource. The proposed project includes a 49 .1-hectare (121.2-acre) tract in northeastern Paulding County, Georgia along Pumpkinvine Creek. A total of 13 archeological sites and two isolated finds were found within the project area during the survey. Three previously recorded archeological sites, 9P AS, 9PA36, 9PA252 are located within the project area. Harmony Grove Cemetery (9PA13), lies within the project Area of Potential Effects but will not impacted by the Edenwood undertaking. The prehistoric resources recorded during the current study include occupations dating to the Early Archaic, Middle Archaic, Late Archaic, Middle Woodland, Woodland/Mississippian, and Mississippian. Historic archeological sites were recorded, and date to the late 19th century through the early 20th century. Based on survey and testing data, three archeological sites (9PA8 and 9PA353) are recommended eligible for the NRHP. The remaining 11 sites and two isolated finds are recommended ineligible for the NRHP.
