Abstract

This report summarizes the results of archeological data recovery at a prehistoric site located on the outskirts of the town of Ellijay, Georgia. Ellijay is the county seat of Gilmer County, located approximately 50 mi north of Atlanta. The site, given the temporary designation of 9Gi(SAS)1, was discovered during an intensive cultural resources survey of Oglethorpe Power Corporation's (OPC) proposed 46 kV transmission line and substation (Smith 1987). The proposed transmission line parallels Boardtown Road and the Ellijay River. The site is located at the northern terminus of the line, at the existing Boardtown substation. See Figure 1 for location.
