Abstract

Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc., conducted an intensive surface and subsurface cultural resources survey in November, 1987, on a 22 ha (55 ac) tract of land in. north central Fannin County, Georgia. Surface inspection, coupled with the excavation of 30 shovel tests, discovered one historic period archeological site and several non-site resources. The non-site resources consisted of terraces, hillside ditches, road beds, modern trash piles, isolated prehistoric artifacts, and a partially standing, post-World War II house. The one site discovered, 9Fn(SAS)1 , is a twentieth century (ca.1920s to 1950s) house site situated in a south facing cove. It is the opinion of the principal investigator that none of the site or non-site resources meet any of the criteria for eligibility to the National Register of Historic Places [CFR section 800.10(a)]. Therefore, in regard to cultural resources, the principal investigator recommends no further work be conducted and that the project be given clearance to proceed.
