Abstract

This report details an archaeological survey of the proposed Northrop (Line B) substation and transmission line located in Peach and Houston counties, Georgia. This survey located five previously unknown prehistoric archaeological sites, two historic sites, a historic cemetery, and six isolated artifact finds within the proposed transmission line corridor. Test excavations were conducted at two prehistoric sites, Sites 2 and 3, which revealed buried deposits of Woodland period artifacts. These sites are recommended as potentially eligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places. It is further recommended that, pursuant to Georgia law, the cemetery remain in an undisturbed state. No further work was recommended for the remaining five sites identified by this study.
