Abstract

The following archeological report is part of the evaluation of cultural resources (historical/archeological) in the 201 Waste Water Facilities Study, Yellow River Drainage Basin, DeKalb County, Georgia, prepared by the firm of Black, Crow & Eidsness, Inc. (Job No. 177-74-50). _ The report was prepared by the staff of the Archeological Survey of Cobb-Fulton Counties, with the co-operative permission of the counties' Boards of Commissioners, at the request of Black, Crow & Eidsness, Inc. Included in the report are the results of the preliminary surface reconnaissance, archeological assessment or records-check of available data from past surveys, and a check-off against the National Register of Historic Places. Although other areas are mentioned in the report, the data is directed primarily to those sites which might be impacted upon by any one of the five alternate plans as drawn up by the engineering firm. Much of DeKalb County remains unsurveyed and unknown as regards the cultural resource base as a total entity. There is the danger that given wide publicity and no protection, the sites listed here will fall prey to vandalism by relic hunter or other un-scientifically oriented persons and the purpose of the survey (the consideration and conservation of the cultural resources) be defeated. Additional to the basic location and priority of the sites, a section of recommendations and proposals is presented for transmittal to the DeKalb County government.
