Abstract

During the period of June 9-17, 2011, R.S. Webb & Associates conducted a Phase I archeological resources survey of the Oothkalooga Creek Trail for the City of Adairsville, in Bartow County, Georgia. The study is part of the requirements under the Georgia Recreational Trails Program (RTP) and was recommended by the Georgia Historic Preservation Division (HPD) to locate and identify archeological resources within the project area and assess resource significance based on National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) criteria (36 CFR Part 60.4). Since RTP is federally funded, the project was performed in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended 2001. The project area consists of a proposed 1,300 feet [396 meters (m)] long, 15 feet (4.6 m) wide trail corridor, and a 0.69-acre (0.3-hectare) parking area site located approximately 325 m west-northwest of Adairsville, Georgia; it is north of Twin Bridges Road and west of Hall Station Road Northwest, and follows the west side of the sewage treatment facility and pond. The Area of Potential Effects (APE) of this project is defined as the project boundaries based on field evaluation of topography, vegetation, and modern intrusions.
