Abstract

While under contract with Tolomato Partners, LLLC, Southeastern Horizons, Inc., conducted a Phase II archaeological testing program on a parcel of land designated as Lot 41 and Tract B (hereafter referred to as the project area) within their residential development of "Tolomato Island Phase 1" in Mcintosh County, Georgia. The development project is located on Tolomato Island, a narrow peninsula of land extending into the salt marsh on the eastern side of the county. Adverse effects from the construction of a boat ramp and dock facility are expected on a portion of9MC404 which extends into the project area. The purpose of the Phase II investigation was to gather data sufficient to make an eligibility recommendation for listing in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The investigation was mandated by the cultural resource requirements associated with a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACOE) permit application (#200600453; GAHPD Reference: HP-060515-012) under the authority of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and its implemented regulation 36 CFR Part 800 (Protection of Historic Properties), as amended.
