Phase I Archaeological Survey of the Proposed Intersection Improvement Area at State Route 14 at Herring Road and Edgeworth Road Coweta County, Georgia

Abstract

New South Associates conducted a Phase I archaeological survey of the proposed intersection improvements at U.S. Highway 29 /State Route 14 at Herring Road and Edgeworth Road in Coweta County, Georgia. Archaeological field investigations took place on March 28, 2002. No evidence of cultural material and/ or activity was recognized, therefore, no further archaeological work is recommended for this intersection. Additionally, a determination of cemetery boundaries for the Jones Chapel Cemetery located on State Route 16 was conducted in conjunction with the archaeological survey. A single subsurface soil anomaly was identified as a potential grave but did not extend into the survey area. Nonetheless, extreme caution should be exercised in the vicinity of the existing grave plots during construction activities so as not to disturb other potentially unidentified graves.
