Abstract

The survey described here was designed to locate and evaluate archaeological sites in the in the area of two Henry County intersection improvements proposed by the Georgia Department of Transportation. These intersections are that of Flat Rock Road and Old Conyers Road, four miles northeast of Stockbridge, and that of Thurman Road and Fairview Road, six miles north of Stockbridge.

Intensive archeological survey found no historic period or prehistoric artifacts in either project area, both of which are severely disturbed by grading for existing developments. Our observations led us to c include that neither project area contains any archeological sites. As a result of these conclusions, we recommend that no significant archeological resources exist within the proposed project corridor. Regarding such resources, we suggest the project be allowed to proceed as planned within the surveyed corridor.
