Abstract

Location: The project involves the widening of Jonesboro Road from Goodson Road to Bethsaida Road. The section from Goodson to Oakely Road will be a 5 lane urban section, and the section from Oakley to Bethsaida Road will be a 4 lane rural section. Right-of-way acquisitions will vary, but the most needed will be 50 feet.

Method of Survey:

1. Planning: The G.S.U. site files were checked and there are no recorded sites in the vicinity of the project. The project was plotted on the Fairburn U.S.G.S. topographic quad and was found to run along a ridge line. No areas of site probability were located prior to the field survey.

2. Field Work: Upon examination this section of Jonesboro Road has house and small business development along most of the alignment. The few exceptions were two extensive fields which, after investigation, produced no evidence of archaeological materials and some pine stands.

3. Sub-Surface Tests: None were indicated.

Results: After planning assessment and field investigation, it is my opinion that this project will not affect the cultural resources of the State.
