Abstract

A cultural resources survey of proposed relocation route of Tallulah River Road (F.R. 70) was conducted in northwest Rabun County in September and October, 1988. The road change was designed to bypass the USFS Tallulah River Recreation Area campground. It was placed on an old logging railway line location which had been later used for a CCC Camp F-5 Officers' cabin. The line was removed in the 1920's, and the CCC buildings were also removed in the 1930's, so that little remained of either. Due to continuous disturbance, construction changes and re-use of the recreation area through the years, no additional data is likely from the proposed roadway location. Cultural resources clearance is recommended for the project.
