Abstract

The project is located at the existing floating dock system utilized by the Savannah Belles Ferry vessels on the waterfront north of City Hall and River Street in Savannah, Georgia. The project will consist of the removal of approximately 48 feet of the existing aluminum floating dock on the west end of the facility and the installation of 80 feet of concrete floating dock to provide for the more stable docking and less maintenance on the existing aluminum dock. The replacement will not extend farther into the River than the existing dock that is being removed, and the west end of the dock will be approximately 30 feet from the property line as shown on the plans. The operation of the new dock will be identical to the existing ferry vessel operations with limited short-term berthing for the unloading/loading of passengers. Work will be performed by water-borne barge and crane vessels operating from within the slip. Two new concrete piles will be installed to augment the existing three piles. One of the existing piles will be relocated for the new dock system. Both piles will be located in the water below the low tide line. All activities will be performed in a manner to minimize turbidity in the stream.
