Abstract

Cultural resources surveys were conducted on two tracts of National Forest land prior to proposed Forest Service activities: a land exchange and a road construction project. The exchange parcel is located in northeast Habersham County, near the Turnervlle community, and contains 27 acres. Two heavily disturbed sites were found there, a prehistoric Archaic lithic scatter and a multi-structure historic period house site. A curve in the Bent Hickory Road Stephens County will be straightened, crossing the Forest in northwest Stephens County. An isolated archaic projectile point and a chert flake were und in the right-of-way, but no other cultural resources were located. cause of the heavily disturbed nature of the cultural resources found, clearance for these two projects is recommended.
