Abstract

R.S. Webb & Associates (RSWA), a professional cultural resources management firm, conducted archeological and historic resources field surveys for the above-referenced telecommunications tower project. This survey was conducted at the request of, and based upon location information provided by, Tower Engineering Professionals, Inc. (TEP), and is intended to meet the requirements of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and the FCC’s Nationwide Programmatic Agreement. The proposed tower site is located southwest of the intersection of Buford Highway and McGinnis Ferry Road, within a graded staging lot located behind a tool and equipment rental business, near Suwanee, Gwinnett County, Georgia (USGS Suwanee, Georgia Quadrangle) (Figure 1). The proposed undertaking includes collocation of antennae on an existing 199-foot monopole telecommunications tower and the expansion of an existing 60-foot-by-58-foot fenced tower compound. The project site equipment expansion area includes future and proposed ground spaces within a 53-foot-by-31-foot area and surrounding fenced enclosures. The project area also includes a 30-foot buffer zone around the entire existing, proposed, and future lease areas. Access to the facility will be gained by an existing corridor off Buford Highway and through the larger existing rental equipment staging area.
