Abstract

During March and April of 1987, Robert S. Webb tested two prehistoric sites (provisional site numbers "Site #2 and Site #3) at the Cartersville Airport in Bartow County Georgia. The project area lies within the Etowah Valley Historic District. Site #2 is a multicomponent (Middle Archaic, Late Archaic, Woodland, Mississippian) lithic and ceramic site with intact features. Site #1 is a small shallow lithic and light ceramic scatter of undetermined affiliation. Systematic subsurface and surface investigations reveal that part of Site #2 is eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. Because of heavy disturbances, Site #3 is not eligible. Airport design modifications will allow preservation of sensitive Site #2 areas.
