Abstract

The proposed project is at the interchange of Interstate 285 (I-285) and State Route (SR) 6/Camp Creek Parkway, in the city of East Point, Fulton County, Georgia. SR 6/Camp Creek Parkway at I-285 is presently an overpass comprised of two eastbound and westbound travel lanes with signalized single left turn lanes and unsignalized right turn lanes, each proving northbound and southbound access to I-285 from SR 6/Camp Creek Parkway in both directions. The project proposes to reconfigure the SR 6/Camp Creek Parkway and I-285 interchange by constructing a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI). The project will be completed within the limits of an environmental screening area, which served as the survey boundaries. An environmental screening area is a layout provided to the GDOT Office of Environmental Services (OES) that incorporates all possible design alternatives for a project within its boundaries, rather than one specific proposed project design. That way all of the necessary environmental surveys can be completed before the design plans are finalized and no additional fieldwork is necessary as the plans develop. The limits of the environmental screening area along SR 6 extend west to Center Pointe Way and east to Desert Drive for a total of approximately 4,000 feet. The limits along I-285 extend approximately 3,100 feet north of the interchange and 4,100 feet south of the interchange. The width of the environmental screening area along the SR 6/Camp Creek Parkway and I-285 corridors is approximately 600 feet. The width increases at the SR 6/Camp Creek Parkway and I-285 interchange from 600 feet to a maximum of approximately 1,140 feet.
