Abstract

Refinements to the road design have resulted in wider construction limits for the corridor in some areas. The slopes for the railroad bridge approaches over the CSX railroad have been widened. The intersection of Pine Barren Road with US 17, and the intersection of US 17 with Jimmy DeLoach Parkway Phase II have been realigned to a more desirable T-alignment for both intersections. Additional easement was added on the southwest approach at the Ogeechee River. The length of the project would remain approximately 2.7 miles.

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has requested that improvements to the I-16 ramps, and Jimmy DeLoach Parkway south of I-16, be reviewed. FHWA has requested review of the conceptual changes to determine how they would impact traffic flow in the vicinity of the interchange. The conceptual improvements include expanding eastbound and westbound ramps of I-16 to allow for a wider travel lane and paved shoulder. Approximately .5 mile of Jimmy DeLoach Parkway south ofl-16 would be widened from two 12-foot lanes to four 12-foot lanes. The widening would occur symmetrically along the existing alignment. The intersections of John Carter Road west of this widening and DOT Barn Road east of the widening would be improved to allow for wider turning radii.
