Abstract

Project STPIM-0180-01(006) is the widening and reconstruction of SR 151/Alabama Highway from just south of C.R. 170/Holcomb Road through the I-75 Interchange to U.S. 41/S.R.2/U.S. 76/ Dixie Hwy. for an approximate distance of 2.07 miles. Currently, S.R. 151/Alabama Highway consists of 2-12 foot lanes with 5 foot rural shoulders from the beginning of the project to just east of C.R. 171/Poplar Springs Road. The remainder of the project consists of 4-12 foot lanes with a variable width grassed median. The existing major structures consist of parallel bridges over I-75 and single bridge over South Chickamauga Creek. The proposed construction will widen S.R. 151/ Alabama Highway to 2-12 foot lanes in each direction with a raised concrete median and turn lanes from just south of CR 170/Holcomb Road to just north of CR 382/Boyton Rd/Lafayette Street. At this point the proposed construction will construct a 4 lane divided roadway section with a striped 14 feet flush median within a 20 foot raised median pavement width. Also, this project includes the replacement of the two existing bridge over I-75 and the bridge over South Chickamauga Creek. All ramps at the I-75 and SR 151 interchange will be upgraded to current Department standards, lengthened to provide adequate acceleration and deceleration lengths, and designed to accommodate the future widening of I-75. The project length is 2.070 miles along SR 15 and 2.652 miles along I-75. Existing right-of-way width varies from100-ft to 200-ft and the Proposed right-of-way width varies from 150-ft to 260-ft.
