Abstract

In January of 2015 Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc. conducted a phase I archeological survey of the proposed Little Arlington 46/12 kV substation in southern Calhoun County, Georgia. The substation tract consists of about 10.95 acres. The tract has long been in cultivation so there was excellent visibility of the ground surface. Two archeological sites (9CU182 and 9CU183), both consisting of sparse prehistoric lithic scatters, were found by the survey. Both have been badly disturbed by deep plowing. Due to poor integrity and the sparse nature of the deposits, neither site qualifies for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places. No additional archeological studies are needed before construction begins.
