Abstract

In July of 2015 Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc. conducted a phase I archeological survey of the proposed Blakely 115/25 kV substation in central Early County, Georgia. The substation tract consists of 4.9 acres, comprising a cultivated field surrounded by woods and an existing transmission line corridor along one side. Archival research indicated that no archeological sites and no former houses have been recorded for the tract. One archeological site, 9ER291, a sparse prehistoric lithic scatter in the plowed field, was found by the survey. It has been disturbed by deep plowing. Due to poor integrity and the lack of research potential, we recommend that site 9ER291 is not eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. No additional archeological studies are needed prior to construction.
