Abstract

The proposed action includes the construction of a new museum and related structures, galleries, and exhibits to accommodate the NIM collection; development of the site to include local access and parking and pedestrian circulation; creation of such features as a Parade Field Amphitheater, Memorial Walk of Honor and similar site related amenities; construction of a scale replica of a Jump Tower like those located on the Main Post area of the installation; re-creation of a World War II Company Street; and provision of all necessary utilities, including storm water management, site lighting, security, and environmental controls. The CMH would retain ownership of the collection and all artifacts that are displayed or stored at the new NIM. Expanded facilities for soldier training and public programs would be provided with improved access to the collection, larger meeting and display areas, and upgraded exhibits and interpretations of the history of the Infantry, through the use of more modern and engaging museum techniques than exist in the present museum.
