Abstract

The Georgia Power Company (GPC) is planning to build a new substation near the University of West Georgia outside the city of Carrollton in Carroll County, Georgia. Figures l and 2 provide the proposed location of this substation. In an effort to identify sensitive cultural resources in and around the project area and to assess any impact the project could have on those resources, GPC commissioned Brockington and Associates, Inc. (Brockington) to complete a due-diligence cultural resource investigation. The study area included an approximately eight-acre tract comprising the substation construction footprint for archaeological field investigations and a windshield reconnaissance survey for historic architectural properties within 0.25-mile of the study tract boundary. A cultural resource literature review was completed for an area 0.5-mile around the proposed substation site. This letter report is for due-diligence informational purposes only, and does not meet Section 106 reporting requirements of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA).
