Abstract

The proposed acquisition and development of the Northwest Park by the City of Cedartown consists of acquiring approximately 20 acres and developing a multi-purpose outdoor recreation facility for Cedartown. This park is designed to serve all of the residence of Cedartown and the surrounding areas of the county. The target population of this project includes the 9253 residents of Cedartown and approximately 6- 10 thousand residents of the surrounding areas.

The development of Northwest Park is planned in three phases. Phase I will consist of the basic recreation facilities which will meet the most urgent recreational needs of the community. Completion of Phases II and II I wil1 continue toward the goal of providing a complete recreational facility and services to the community.

The proposed acquisition of the site will assure a permanent open space and green belt which is protected from exploitation.

The proposed portion of the overall development consists of the construction of a lighted football field, comfort station/pavilion, drives and parking areas and other supporting facilities.

This project has been designed in accordance with state/regional and local recreational objectives.

MAJOR OBJECTIVES OF THE PROPOSED PROJECT

a. Satisfy the present and future outdoor recreation needs of the people in that area.

b. To satisfy immediate needs and plans for insuring long-term recreation productivity.

c. Improve management of the lands and forest resources which will accompany the development of the project.
