Abstract

It is my conclusion, based upon the above described investigations, that the large stone mound in question is not an aboriginal burial or ceremonial mound. Since bedrock which underlies the stone mound is of rather high quality quartz suitable for aboriginal tool manufacture, it is possible that some Indian quarrying activity may have occurred here. If so, the outcrop was apparently not a major quarry site and does not seem worth preserving or further investigation. The pile of stone overlying the quartz outcrop is doubtless the result of European field clearing activities as are the numerous smaller rock piles scattered about in the vicinity.
