Abstract

An intensive cultural resources survey was conducted of Oglethorpe Power Corporation's proposed Woodstock -Hawkins Store Road transmission line and Hawkins Store Road substation. The transmission line corridor is approximately 7 km in length and the substation tract encompasses about 1.6 ha. The project is located in Cherokee and Cobb Counties, Georgia, among Atlanta's northern suburbs. No archeological sites were found within the project area, so no disturbance will result to archeological resources by construction of this project. A single historic structure potentially eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places is located within the view shed of the project. The visual impacts to the structure, however, will not be significant due to previous visual degradation from an existing service line. Therefore, the principal investigator recommends that construction of this project can proceed without significant impacts to archeological sites or historic structures.
