Abstract

A cultural resources survey of a proposed reservoir in Rabun County was conducted in March 1987, by Elizabeth J. Misner, for the Clayton City Council. The project area includes 7.96 acres which will be impacted by the construction of a dam and associated reservoir. Impact from a new water main is judged to be minimal since it will follow an existing road In addition to examining open ground arid road cuts, the survey area was tested by placing 17 shovel tests at intervals on level areas. Two artifact occurrences were noted and no archaeological sites were discovered. The unproductive shovel tests indicate that no cultural resources will be impacted by the construction of this reservoir and the archaeologist recommends that this project be given clearance to Proceed.
