Abstract

On Monday, April 7, 1975, an archaeological and historical survey was conducted on a 30.51 acre plot of land located on the west side of Norton Road in Rockdale County. This is the proposed site for a Quadriplex type housing development.

On the basis of this Survey, no sites of prehistorical importance were encountered by the archaeology assistants. However, it is also necessary to state that thick vegetation in certain areas inhibited a conclusive surface examination, and it is recommended therefore, that further land alterations by developing be monitored by a qualified archaeologist.

Although not of direct archaeological or historical significance, the surveyors were of the opinion that the area of large birch trees and rock outcroppings on the slope bordering the west side of Boar Tusk Branch represents the most intact natural setting on the property. If the development plans entail providing for open space, the above area would be most suitable for this purpose.
