Abstract

This report is written in response to a request issued by the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests for the recordation (i.e., mapping, photography, and tracing), description (i.e., rock make-up, dimensions, motifs, condition), background and comparative research (i.e., environmental, archaeological, ethno-historical, and rock art contexts), stylistic cross-dating and sequence of image overlaps, National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligibility evaluation, and completion of a Georgia state site inventory form of the Allen Petroglyph boulder (9HM299) in northeast Georgia. The Allen Petroglyph boulder is located within Compartment 236 (Tallulah Falls 7.5 Series quadrangle) in Habersham County on the Chattooga River Ranger District. Allen Rock was mapped, traced, condition assessed, and photographed in late January and early February of 2011. The 23-centimeter high dome-shaped rock measures 140 centimeters along its northeast/southwest axis and 110 centimeters· along its northwest/southeast axis.
