Abstract

This report is a follow up on the details of a survey completed to assess a portion of the South Atlanta Tollway in Fulton and Cobb counties. If the South Atlanta Tollway must cross “Soapstone Ridge”, the present route is considered as having the least impact on the area. However, the Survey staff wishes to point out that once the right-of-way is acquired by the Tollway Authority, the properties automatically come under the Georgia Antiquities Laws and archeological remains become the responsibility of the State Archeologist, Dr. Lewis H. Larson, Jr., who is presently in residence at West Georgia College, Carrollton, Georgia. Archeological sites and/or artifacts discovered in the rights-of-way become the property of the State of Georgia under the Georgia Historical Commission and by law must be reported to that agency within two days.

The Survey also wishes to point out that the remainder of the South Atlanta Tollways and all routes designed by the Tollways Authority should have prior survey for historical and archeological impact.
