A Report of Geodetic, Bathymetric, and Underwater Archaeological Remote Sensing Surveys for the Proposed Cumberland Harbour South Point Village Marina, Point Peter, St. Marys River, Camden County, Georgia

Land Resource Companies of Atlanta, Georgia, is proposing to build a floating dock marina on the north side of the St. Marys River off Point Peter in Camden County, Georgia. The proposed marina is planned in association with Cumberland Harbour, an adjacent terrestrial residential development. Construction activities associated with the proposed project include piling installation and vessel anchorage that may impact submerged cultural resources within and adjacent to the proposed marina location. For engineering purposes and due to the potential for submerged cultural resources in the vicinity, as well as in compliance with Federal legislation, Land Resource Companies, contracted Environmental Services, Inc., of Savannah, Georgia, to conduct a geophysical survey of the areas of proposed impact and potential effect (APE). Field investigations were conducted between 20 and 22 November 2004. Geophysical data for the geodetic, bathymetric, and underwater archaeological surveys were collected and one magnetic anomaly was identified during the survey. The contact was determined to be a single object of low ferrous metal mass and its location suggests the object is outside the area of proposed impacts. No diver investigation is necessary. Based on the survey results, the proposed marina will not impact any potentially significant or National Register eligible cultural resources. No additional mitigation or investigations are deemed necessary. It is recommended that the proposed project be granted clearance without concern for impacts to significant cultural resources.
