Abstract

This addendum survey is to address portions of the project area that lie outside of previous archaeological survey coverage. The two GDOT P.I. Nos. (110610 and 0013545) lie within two main previous archaeological survey corridors (McIntosh and Duff 2002; Sweeney 2010), with numerous other previous archaeological surveys intersecting the projects (Figures 3 through 10). After a review of the previous archaeological surveys, it was discovered that four out of twelve overpass bridges fell outside of the previous archaeological survey coverage (see Figures 5 through 7, and Figure 9). This addendum survey is for the replacement of four overpass bridges at Spout Springs Road, Flowery Branch Road, Jesse Cronic Road, and SR 332. Please note that while the Jesse Cronic Road bridge and the SR 332 bridge appear to be covered by a previous GDOT archaeological survey, the survey was for a bridge repainting project and was restricted to the existing ROW (see Figures 7 and 9) (Entorf and Fleming 1996). It remains unclear what the GDOT survey consisted of; therefore, these two bridges were included in the addendum survey. The remaining eight mainline bridges being replaced at Mulberry River, Walnut Creek, CSX Railroad, and Middle Oconee River, all fall within previous archaeological survey coverage and were not surveyed (see Figures 7 and 10). All eight of these bridges fall within the survey coverage of the 2002 McIntosh and Duff survey conducted by GDOT.
