Abstract

The proposed project would consist of the installation of fiber optic communication devices along approximately 5 miles of roadway (see Figure 1). New fiber optic lines would be installed along Ashford Dunwoody Road and Dresden Drive, utilizing underground boring, new pullboxes, and existing utility poles (Figures 2a-2q). The proposed network would enhance communication between the existing Perimeter Traffic Operations Program (PTOP) and Regional Traffic Operations Program (RTOP) signals within the City of Brookhaven through communication upgrades to existing traffic signal cabinets. In addition to fiber optic upgrades, communication equipment upgrades and/or pedestrian improvements would occur at the intersections identified below. These improvements would include the installation of new pedestrian poles and pedestrian signal heads, installation of pedestrian ramps, new pullboxes, new power meters on poles, new strain poles, new cabinets, and/or new crosswalk striping at the following locations:

  • Ashford Dunwoody Road @ Perimeter Summit Parkway
  • Ashford Dunwoody Road @ Montgomery Elementary School Driveway
  • Ashford Dunwoody Road @ Nancy Creek Drive
  • Ashford Dunwoody Road @ Harts Mill Road
  • Ashford Dunwoody Road @ Johnson Ferry Road
  • Ashford Dunwoody Road @ Johnson Ferry Road / Donaldson Drive
  • Ashford Dunwoody Road @ Peachtree Road
  • Dresden Drive @ Apple Valley Road
  • Dresden Drive @ Ellijay Drive / Caldwell Road
  • Dresden Drive @ Thompson Road
  • Dresden Drive @ Skyland Drive
  • Dresden Drive @ Clairmont Road

All construction would occur within existing right-of-way (ROW) and no easements would be required.
