Abstract

The purpose of this project is bridge rehabilitation at three bridge locations; Dugan Loop over Interstate 59 (I-59) (Structure ID 083-0017-0) in Dade County, Dews Pond Road over I-75 (Structure ID 129-0073-0) in Gordon County, and Walnut Avenue over I-75 (Structure ID 313-0018-0) in Whitfield County, Georgia (Figures 1, 2, and 3) (Table 1). The proposed project will include raising each bridge between 7 inches to 10 inches to a minimum vertical clearance of 17 feet. Roadway shoulder and slope work will be required to match the new grade of the bridge extending cut-fill limits beyond the existing toe-of-slope. Additional proposed maintenance activities include replacing or extending existing draining structures within the project limits, replace rip-rap at the drainage outlets, strengthening or replacing caps, deck joint replacement, application of co-polymer deck overlay, painting the steel superstructure, repair of cracks and spalls in the substructure, and removal of vegetation from 10 feet to 15 feet from either side of the structure in the existing Right of Way (ROW). In addition, this project will involve side-road and/or driveway tie-ins within the project limits. Project limits at the 3 bridge locations extend approximately 500 feet from both ends of the bridge, 100 feet into side roads, 30 feet into driveways, and width is limited to existing ROW. Existing ROW varies from location to location. At Bridge 1 existing ROW varies between 60 feet to 154 feet, between 50 feet to 97 feet at Bridge 2, and between 91 feet to 269 feet at Bridge 3. All proposed activities will take place within existing ROW.
