Abstract

This project involves the replacement of Bridge 195-5042-0 that carries Transco Road over Scull Shoal Creek in Madison County (Attachment 1). The bridge, built in 1966, is located approximately 6.5 miles northeast of Danielsville, Georgia. Designs for the new bridge were not yet available at the time of the archaeological survey.  The existing right-of-way (ROW) measures 15 meters (50 ft.) from the centerline. The bridge is 32 meters (105 ft.) in length. No temporary roadways or bridges were proposed for this project.

This project is part of GDOT's Low Impact Bridge Program (LIBP). From the LIBP Manual: "The 100-foot expanded archaeology survey corridor on typical GDOT projects will be waived in some instances, given that projects in the Program are not intended to extend beyond existing ROW. This consideration will be determined based on available design information and consultation with Office of Bridges and Structures. Field data will be assessed to ensure that the entire survey area has been surveyed. For the purpose of the field survey, generally 300 feet from existing structure approaches will serve as the longitudinal survey limits."
