Abstract

The project is located on State Route (SR) 158, 1.2 miles west of SR 90, when Berrien, Irwin, and Coffee Counties meet (Figure 1). The proposed project would replace the existing SR 158 bridge over Willacoochee River (Bridge ID 0 19-0034-0). The existing typical section of SR 158 consists of two, 12-foot wide travel lanes (one in each direction) with 4-foot shoulders and open ditches on each side. The existing bridge over Willacoochee River is approximately 204 feet long with two 12-foot wide lanes and a bridge deck width of 32 feet. The existing right-of-way (ROW) on this section is approximately 100 feet wide. This bridge is classified as having an unknown foundation and therefore could be at risk for scour. Due to the structural integrity of the bridge pertaining to the design vehicle, the unknown foundation of the substructure, and the restrictive weight limits of the structure, replacement of this bridge is recommended.
