For the proposed project, the existing bridge will be demolished by an as-yet unspecified technique. The new bridge will be constructed at the location of the existing bridge, using the existing approach lanes.
Tile replacement bridge will meet Federal Highway Administration specifications and fulfill the installation's military training, maintenance and natural resources needs. In order to meet national safety standards, the replacement bridge will consist of two 12 foot wide lanes, with two 10 foot wide shoulders, ·for a total width of 44 feet. The replacement bridge will have a carrying capacity of 70 ton, to accommodate military track vehicles. Approach lanes will be widened 300 feet back from each end of the bridge.
Demolition of the existing bridge and construction of the replacement will be accompli shed under a contract administered by Fort Benning. The project is not included in the Fort Benning Master Plan, and will be funded from emergency Fiscal Year 1989 funds.
