Abstract

In July 2011, Southeastern Archaeological Research, Inc. (SEARCH) completed a Phase I level archaeological survey of the 27.7 acre Marine Corps Reserve Center (MCRC) Windy Hill in Cobb County, Georgia. The work was completed on behalf of Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southeast (NAVFAC SE) under Contract No. N69450-08-D-0064-0027. The project was conducted in partial fulfillment of the Navy's obligations under Section 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 (16 USC 470h-2) to assume responsibility for the preservation of historic properties that are under its ownership or control. Shovel testing revealed that much of the MCRC Windy Hill property is disturbed from past construction and infrastructure improvements to the facility since the 1970s. As a result of the survey, two isolated finds were documented. Neither resource is considered eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). No further cultural resources work or considerations are recommended for MCRC Windy Hill.
